Eye issues in your pets

Most people realize when their pet’s eyes turn cloudy, but make sure you have Dr. Flanders check your pet’s vision at your next wellness exam.  Since our patients can’t tell us where it hurts or that their vision has become blurry, we rely on owners to tell us what’s been going on at home.  There are many things that can be done when there is a vision problem.  Here are a few common vision problems:

  • Pink eye (Conjunctivitis)
  • Dry eyes
  • Glaucoma
  • Cataracts
  • Progressive Retinal Atrophy
  • Third eyelid inflammation (cherry eye)
  • eye injuries (scratches or a poke in the eye)

We have antibiotics and drops that can help many of these conditions early before blindness can set in.  There are veterinarians who specialize in eye care that we can refer you too if we can’t treat the problem.
