Now that it is cooler outside, it is easy to forget about brushing and bathing. But it is still important to continue grooming, especially long hair cats and dogs!
- brushing: hair mats continue to be an issue in fall and winter just as in spring and fall. Shredding also continues in fall and winter. My border collie has been shredding over the past few weeks for the winter. Baths help rid your pet of the excess hair. Brushing helps keep the excess hair off and can stop those troublesome hot spots and other skin irritations.
- baths: baths are still important but you need a bit of planning with weather outside being cooler. I bathed my little dog just last week during one of the colder days and made sure she had some playtime and bathroom time before her bath so she would have several hours to be fully dry before going out again. Even though you are drying your pet it still doesn’t completely dry them, so having a few more hours in the warmth will ensure that your pet won’t get sick or chilled.
