Making a first aid kit for your pet

Making a first aid kit for your pet

Here is a quick list of items you may want to put in a toolbox marked pet first aid kit.

  1. Pet Medical Record (VIP is happy to provide an extra copy of all care given at our facility)
  2. Muzzle (we know your pet is always a great happy camper, but when they are hurt they will try to bite or nip to warn you to stay back)
  3. Digital Thermometer and petroleum jelly to coat the thermometer
  4. eye dropper (to administer medicine)
  5. activated charcoal or milk of magnesia or pepto bismol
  6. benadryl liquid or tablet (no capsules).  1 mg/pound of weight of your pet will help lesson an allergic reaction to a bee sting.
  7. 3% hydrogen peroxide (can be given 1 tsp every 5 minutes to induce vomiting if ingested poisons)
  8. Location of pet carrier
  9. clean towels
  10. non-adhesive bandages, gauze rolls, and non stick tape for wound care.
