Safety precautions to make sure your pet doesn’t get away from you.
Many times our pets can run away from us for one reason or another. It may be to chase an animal, to avoid punishment or just because! Try these tips to avoid disasters!
- If you have a fenced back yard, always a good idea to check the fence every month or so. Some dogs are diggers and may be able to slip under the fence. Or a storm may weaken the fence, tree limps may fall and damage part of it. Goodness knows we have had plenty of rain this spring and summer as well as storms lately.
- Leash: make sure your leash is in good order. I had a puppy once who ate through her brand new leash while we were standing and visiting with neighbors! I learned real fast not to let her chew on anything even for a minute! Pets are good at watching and using the idle time to entertain themselves.
- Microchip: if you haven’t thought about one, now is an excellent time to have one implanted in your pet. No sedation is needed, just a quick slip under the skin. We can do it at the vaccination appointment or walk ins. $45 is all you pay, even for the website monitoring. Then just make sure you register it with your phone numbers and ours. If you phone number happened to change or they can’t get a hold of you, they will call us. Better for us to retrieve your pet than the humane society!
