One of the best things you can do when training your new puppy is also dental care training. Get your puppy used to letting you put your fingers in his mouth with biting hard on your fingers. It is natural for them to want to bite, but get them used to you moving your fingers around their teeth.
Start with some canned food or peanut butter on your finger. After they have licked some off your finger, try to start rubbing your finger around their teeth. After a few days of this repeated activity, move to the their muzzle. Rubbing their muzzle, then holding it gently, then a bit more firm as the days/week go by.
Now you can introduce a toothbrush, finger brush or wet washcloth to clean their teeth. Start again with just water, then after a few days if them allowing the toothbrush in their mouth, add a puppy approved toothpaste. Remember never use human toothpaste as their tummies can’t digest the flouride, etc in our toothpaste.
