So why do we say, “work like a dog?” Most dogs, just like people need work. Work leads to satisfaction and healthy mentally balanced dogs and people. A dog will work itself to death if needed, just like a horse will run until it has nothing left. Our border collie plays so hard and doesn’t seem to want to rest, we have to lead him to water and take toys from him to keep him from complete exhaustion. When we comes in after a long round of chasing his ball, he lays on the hardwood floor and just pants and smiles. That is a mentally stable pup! So don’t forget to enjoy your work and have a blessed day.
Working dogs include dogs who protect livestock, dogs who are therapy dogs, service dogs, rescue dogs and the like. Even the companion animal can be found to alert an owner to a fire in the house, someone who is hurt in the house, and even be known to drag people from drowning or a burning home. Animals senses are so much keener than ours, they detect sound and scents, we most often miss.
Let’s give a big thank you to all our dogs for the value they have in our lives.
